Red Velvet Mocha Brownies

Red Velvet Mocha Brownies

There are many universal truths in life. One I have realized recently is as follows:

Brownies are more delicious than cake 99.9% of the time.

There, I said it. Call the baking police, alert the wedding planners, whatever. I’m convinced, and if you’re not yet, you will be soon.

Given this new life philosophy, I decided to try turning red velvet cake mix into brownies. Also, I was in the mood to add some mocha to the mix, so I sandwiched some mocha brownies in between red velvet brownies, because I’ve learned after years of experience baking that delicious food + delicious food = REALLY delicious food. This creation fit the equation perfectly :-)

Red velvet brownie batter:

1 box red velvet cake mix
1 egg
½ cup brown sugar
½ stick butter, softened
¼ cup oil
½ cup water

1. Mix butter and oil, then add egg and water.
2. Mix in cake mix and brown sugar.

3. Pour half of this mixture into a greased 9 x 13 pan.

Mocha brownie batter

½ cup, (1 stick) butter, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ tsp salt
1/3 cup Hershey's Dark cocoa
1.5 tbsp Maxwell House International Cafe French Vanilla

1. Mix ingredients in the order listed.

2. Pour on top of the red velvet brownie batter in the pan.

3. Pour remaining red velvet brownie batter on top.
4. Bake for 35 minutes at 350.

5. Let cool for an hour.
6. Enjoy!

Always remember, when in doubt, bake!
